Twinkletoes

As you can see from the title of this page, this post is going to be about a book that I read. Twinkletoes is a, erm... i think it's a four part series about the football team from Morrison High. I have just read the third book in the series and I think it is very very interesting as well as humorous. Naturally, since I'm crazy on soccer.

The first book, the other book I have read, was how Leandro, of Chinese and Brazilian parentage was born. Both of his parents play soccer, in fact, his Chinese father was a renowned goalkeeper and his Brazilian mother was the captain of a renowned women's soccer team. As a result, Leandro became very interested in soccer as well. When he entered Morrison High, coach of the Morrison high soccer team, Coach Ramsey, spotted his unusual talent and as a result, Leandro quickly became part of the Morrison High soccer team. Leandro has brilliant dribbling skills, dazzling everyone with his quick feet. Everyone thinks he can be the next 'Twinkletoes'. In the 1950s, Chia Boon Leong, the best winger Singapore ever had, was also given that same nickname. At the end of the book, minnows Morrison High defeated heavyweights Ang Mo Tan Secondary. Principal Billy Chin and coach Ramsey are extremely proud of them.

In this third book, the story kicks off with captain of the Morrison high soccer team, Tan Hock Ann, studying hard for the test which was on the next day. Normally, Hock Ann would not give 2 hoots about any exam and therefore he always failed the tests and remained rooted to the bottom of the class. His mother was single and worked as a hawker in a hawker centre. As the stall could not bring in too much money, she had to double up as a seamstress in a free time and therefore life was very hard on her. However, she was still very happy and proud that her soon had turned over a new leaf and began to take schoolwork very seriously.

The next day, the day of the test, Hock Ann was very nervous as he did not want to get lousy grades and disappoint his mother. He went through his notes once more while on the school bus. After the test papers were given out, Hock Ann looked at the questions and was very surprised. He had expected the questions to look like Greek but instead, they looked quite easy. Hock Ann's pen flew through the papers. After he had completed, he checked through one more time to check for any careless mistakes. Then, he handed his paper up to the teacher. She was shocked as he was the first to hand up his paper when he was usually last. What was more, the answers to every question had been neatly filled in when usually they were left blank except for the multiple choice section.

After thhe test papers had been marked and brought in to the class, the teacher announced that 2 of them had scored full marks. One of them was the smartest girl in the class. Then, she called out Hock Ann. Hock Ann thought that she was going to berate him in front of the whole class for getting the lowest in the class again but he was wrong. He had actually scored full marks! After school, he raced to the hwaker centre to tell his mother the good news. All the other stallholders were also very proud of him and treated him to a lot of food from their own stalls.

The rest if the story will be in the next post. Goodbye!!!
