This page is going to be about, basically, other stuff, like memorable experiences that I have gone through or special occasions.
Last Friday was when my school, Hwa Chong Institution, celebrated National Day. We had no lessons and school ended at 10 so that we could go back to visit our primary schools if we wished. However, I did not go back because my primary school only allowed secondary school students in after 2. This is a new scheme implemented only this year. So you could say I had bad luck. Well, not necessarily. Ok, back to the celebration.
There was assembly as usual at 7.20. This time, we were accompanied by some Chinese students on an exchange programme. They were from China's Nanqiang High School. After flag-raising ended, we went to the Kah Kee Hall while those who had won prizes for CCA Appreciation Day went to the auditorium.
There were a lot of activities so I will only list those which were more memorable to me and are more evident in my memory. First, the NE quiz, 3 random teachers and 3 random students were chosen for it. The M.Cs asked them some questions which were flashed on the visualizer. Then, regardless of whether they answered their questions correctly or not, they were also given prizes and thunderous applause.
Next was the NCC precision drill. NCC refers to the soldiers, if you don't know that. A platoon of them marched out with unloaded(DUH...) M-16 rifles weighing 3.5kg. They then performed with the accompaniment of some lively music. They performed various amazing acts like spinning the rifles with one hand and throwing them up and catching them. Remember, the rifles weighed 3.5 kg.
The next I'm going to talk about is the gymnastics act. That was the most amazing act of all, man. Truly spectacular. There were a lot of somersaults, including standing backflips. Once, one of them flipped over 7 others standing back-to-back.Every single person thought he would not make it and would collide with someone else. But the impossible was made possible.
Before the actual national day celebrations, there was a mini essay-writing competition. For the Lower Secondary, anyone who wished to participate had to write an essay of not more than 40 wordson why he wanted to be a Singaporean. Well, I won the third prize. The reward was being filmed by the Director of Consortium for Aphelion, Mr Charles Low. And being shown to the whole school. It was... kind of embarassing. All my classmates were very shocked and surprised. Some teased me too. But it was worth it, once I got my prize--a 10-dollar Popular voucher.
Altogether, it was the best day of my secondary school life so far.
